As you begin looking around Mac's Finishing Notebook's web site, I know you will notice that my finishes are easy to understand and they will be easy to do. Check out the 'How To' section, it will show you that most of these finishes only take 4 easy steps to complete the finish. It's up to you to give them a try, I know you will find that learning is part of the finishing process, and you will get better as you begin to repeat each step. After 4 decades, I still enjoy the art of finishing.
I was born in Brooklyn, New York. In 1957 I was offered an opportunity to learn to do repairs on furniture. I soon realized that in order to repair furniture, I needed to know how the furniture was first finished. So, for the next 10 years I learned about finishing, refinishing and restoring furniture. In 1967 I went to work for Mohawk Finishing Products in Amsterdam, New York as a salesman. It was a wonderful opportunity for me because, now I would be selling the same materials that I had been using in the shops. It also allowed me to teach others not only about Mohawk products, but about the many finishing techniques I had learned over the years. After 30 years with the company I retired from Mohawk and began writing finishing articles for professional magazines. I really enjoy writing because it's a way of sharing and passing on my knowledge and experiences to others who may someday teach others the wonderful art of finishing!
